About This Place

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles, YUP DDUK LA offers an authentic taste of Korean cuisine that truly captivates the senses. Specializing in tteokbokki—a beloved Korean spicy rice cake dish—this restaurant shines with its signature Yup Dduk and Yup O variants. The Yup Dduk Signature is a fiery symphony of tender rice cakes, firm fish cakes, mini sausages, and crisp cabbage, all simmered to perfection with a rich, spicy sauce and topped with a delicate layer of melted mozzarella cheese. For those seeking a different texture balance, the Yup O offers more fish cake than rice cake, maintaining that same unforgettable spicy kick.

The menu doesn't stop there. The Mala Yup Dduk features a tantalizing mala-infused twist for spice lovers wanting something extra bold. Complement these main dishes with the irresistibly crispy Yup Dduk Fries—vegetable fries that provide a perfect contrast to the stew’s warm, saucy goodness. Adding to the experience is the interactive fun of the DIY rice balls, which diners can customize with fragrant sesame oil, toasted seaweed, and roasted sesame seeds. These, alongside staples like the Tuna Mayo Rice Ball and Spam Mayo Rice Ball, bring a delicious variety that rounds out the meal beautifully.

Stepping into YUP DDUK LA feels like being warmly invited into a friend’s kitchen. The intimate space may be cozy, but diners quickly find themselves enveloped by the attentive and genuinely friendly service. Customers repeatedly praise not just the quality of the food but also how effortlessly welcoming and helpful the staff are—ready to guide you through the menu and ensure your meal hits just the right note of spice and satisfaction.

Food at YUP DDUK LA is not only about taste but also about sharing and connection. The generous portions encourage a communal dining experience that’s perfect for gathering with friends or family. For those new to authentic Korean spicy rice cakes, this is the place to dive in—the complex layers of heat, sweetness, and umami dance together in every bite, leaving you both delightfully challenged and eager for more. And if the spiciness proves too intense, friendly staff are there to recommend other options or cooling sides.

Many patrons have noted the practicality of takeout, given the hearty servings, ensuring that no bit of this memorable meal goes to waste. Parking, often a challenge in bustling LA, is made easy by a valet service, allowing guests to focus solely on the culinary adventure ahead.

Whether you are a tteokbokki enthusiast or a curious foodie craving an authentic Korean spice experience, YUP DDUK LA stands out as a must-visit destination. The harmonious blend of bold flavors, comforting textures, and warm hospitality creates a dining experience that stays with you long after the meal has ended.

It was our first time there. We asked about recommendations and let me tell you everything was wonderful. The service and attentiveness we received was everything. It's little things like that besides the delicious food that will always make you want to go back. Everything is shareable by the way and that's awesome!

At no fault of their own, there popularity exceeds their number of tables. While the early dinner wait was long, about 45 minutes, the wait was worth it. Our very friendly server did not hold back at fully answering menu questions. Follow up table checks were timely and not overbearing like how some small restaurants can be. Food was fresh and matched what the server explained it would be. Beware, the Spicy Dishes are very much so, even when selecting the mild option. The complimentary pickled turnip(maybe?) is both a good pallet cleanser and way to lessen the heat of the spicier options.

slow service, but good food. the main item was pretty interesting and you can feed a couple people from it. beware that it is spicy. I wanted to try some of their add on bowls but wouldn't have had enough space to finish it. they also have beverages for a very good price!

I’ve always wanted to try the kind of tteokbokki you see in Korea, and this was the perfect place for it! It was just as spicy as they said, but still really flavorful and satisfying. The fish cakes were delicious, the portions is huge so it’s definitely a challenge to finish, but you can take the rest to go, which is great. The staff were super friendly as well. Overall I had a really great dinner.

Man, Yupdduk located in the heart of K-Town got me sweating in the best way. Parking kinda sucks in that tiny strip mall, and the spot only got like four little tables squeezed together... I grabbed mine to go. Got the best set combo with everything in it. I picked extra mild thinking I was safe… nah...I was still burning up lol. Next time I'm asking for super mild. But man… the 떡볶이 (tteokbokki) hit the spot. Little on the sweet side, but end of the day it gets the job done. Addictive, messy, spicy happiness.
